Farmers and supporters are set to take on the Albanese Government over its ban on live sheep exports, announcing a ‘Farmy Army’ that will take to the streets against the policy from next week letterboxing homes in suburban Perth and calling on people to sign up online.
Keep the Sheep spokesperson and rally organiser, Paul Brown said the unprecedented crowds in Perth and again last week at the House of Representatives hearing into the live sheep ban bill proved that the campaign had the support of thousands of people on the ground.
“The turn out in Muresk was phenomenal. We have also had hundreds of people email us to find out how to be part of the campaign,”
“We’re not letting up. This ban is poor policy and we’re now inviting people who support us to sign up online and help us take to the streets as part of a ‘farmers army’ that will campaign against the ban to Albo and Agriculture Minister, Murray Watt, when they visit WA next,” he said.
Mr Brown said the issue was fast becoming a poisoned chalice for the Labor Party and was not supported in Western Australia.
“This is not a policy based on science or evidence. There have been incredible improvements made in animal welfare and the Government seems determined to ignore it,” he said.
“We know from the turn out and level of support we’ve received so far that people don’t support this Canberra-driven agenda being pushed over here. We’re calling on people to sign up on the website and join us to campaign against Albo’s ban in city seats too.”
