Frock to Flock: community unites to raise over $38,000 for Keep the Sheep at Elders Ball
The Elders ‘Frock to Flock’ Ball has successfully raised over $38,00 to help support Keep the Sheep and help save the Western Australian sheep industry.
In a moving address to the crowd, farmer and WA Shearing Industry Association President Darren Spencer, said that the ban was already hurting people in his community.
“We are already seeing the consequences of this announcement. Some contractors who are usually shearing until Christmas have already finished up.”
“The lack of continuity will see this industry lose its workforce. What makes it worse, it is all from a Labor government that has shearers in its DNA…the same Labor government that was formed by shearers.”
“We will continue to fight this legislation until it is reversed,” he said.
Keep the Sheep spokesperson, Ben Sutherland said the ball once again showed how much regional committees support Keep the Sheep.
“Not only was there an incredible team of volunteers, but there were a number of businesses involved in donating items for the auction, buying tickets for their clients and then over one hundred and thirty people there on the night. Don’t underestimate the support from regional Australia” he said.
The ball was held at Henderson and Hwang in Kendenup and an auction that included an array of donated items including pellets from Milne feeds, paintings, SAMM rams donated by Roysten, cooking classes and an incredible arch made by Morris Trimmings. Combining ticket sales and the auction generated a total of $38,759.57 for the campaign.
