Prime Minister proves on Perth radio he still doesn’t get it

In an interview with 6PR host Oliver Peterson yesterday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has once again shown he doesn’t understand the impacts of his live sheep ban. When asked about the truck convoy on Friday the Prime Minister displayed his wilful ignorance toward the industry and rural Western Australia.

WA truckie and spokesman, Ben Sutherland, said while the Prime Minister had improved his delivery, having been asked about the unjustified ban on nearly all of his visits to WA, he hadn’t improved his honesty.

“If the outlook for industry is as positive as the PM is spinning, then why are farmers and truckies leaving the industry? Why are we again rallying in the streets of Perth to fight for our jobs and livelihoods?”

“The Prime Minister continues to bat away questions about the 3000 jobs that will be lost in rural WA and the impact that a shrinking sheep industry will have on prices for Aussies during a cost of living crisis?”

“The answer is simple – the PM doesn’t care about rural WA and our contribution to the economy.”

Mr Sutherland said while the PM spruiked his government’s “compensation package” it was a ‘drop in the ocean’ and wouldn’t address the problems of the ban wiping out entire regional communities.

“The package is too little, too late and most of it is being gobbled up by an army of Canberra consultants and advertising.”

Mr Sutherland said the industry had tried to reason with the PM in Canberra but hadn’t been heard and urged people to join farmers, truckies and shearers at this Friday’s rally to show WA Labor MPs how much the issue meant to West Australians.

“The reality is, the PM doesn’t care about WA jobs and way of life. This Friday, we’re taking to the streets to show him.”
